Watercolor course with visual artist

Solveig Ane Kirkaune Øksendal

Solveig Ane Kirkaune Øksendal is a visual artist and works mainly with figurative pencil drawing and watercolor. In the watercolor workshop she will show how she proceeds when working with watercolors. Participants will receive an introduction and tips on how to master this technique, as well as practical things such as tension and different brush and paper types.

Øksendal works in large format and likes to let the subject move outside the sheet. Without sketching, she works the subject forward based on a clear idea of what she wants to depict. Using mirrors, mobile cameras or images from the internet, she obtains the material she needs for what she wants to depict. The body, black humor, and references to both popular culture and art history are elements that recur in her work.

How do you work out shapes while retaining the light in the watercolor?

Join a two-day workshop with visual artist Solveig Ane Kirkaune Øksendal who will give an introduction to her way of working with watercolor, as well as tips and tricks for handling this fluid and somewhat unwieldy medium. For example, when do you paint wet on wet, and when do you have to wait for one layer to dry before painting the next?

The workshop is suitable for both beginners who want to explore the medium for the first time, as well as for those who want inspiration and impulses to continue working with the medium in what may be different and new ways.

TIME: June 10th and 11th, 12-4pm

WEDNESDAY 14 JUNE 10.30 - 15.00 ON TRAFO KUNSTHALL

VISP (Production Unit for Visual Arts) in collaboration with Buskerud Visual Artists, Trafo Kunsthall , the Visual Artists of Akershus and the Norwegian Craftsmen Viken are pleased to present the first course in a series of courses that will be held for artists in Viken during 2023!

Welcome to the communication course! Maja Hattvang from St. Hans Kommunikasjon guides you through the basic principles for good communication of your own practice, across digital and analog channels (including social media). We talk about how to set relevant goals, make good target group assessments and use the right tools. The course takes into account that participants may have limited experience with digital platforms. We work for 4 hours plus a lunch break, and with embedded exercises based on the participants' own practice. Everyone gets templates and tools afterwards.

St. Hans Kommunikasjon was established by writer and curator Johanne Nordby Wernø in 2019, as the country's first agency specifically focused on the art field. We have assisted both large clients such as KORO, the Norwegian Arts Council and several regional museums, medium-sized exhibition spaces such as Kunsthall Trondheim, Unge Kunstneres Samfund and Tromsø Kunstforening, and a number of individual artists. Maja Hattvang is a communications advisor at St. Hans. She is an art writer, journalist and copywriter, with experience including as head of digital marketing at the publishing house Cappelen Damm.

The event is free.
