Digital platforms and social media play a central role in the contemporary art field, and new forms of communication establish new connections between art and the audience.
More and more artists are using social media to present their artistry, and new digital display platforms provide opportunities for promoting art to a larger audience.
In this conversation, we invite contemporary artist Sebastian Helling, and creator of the digital marketplace Atelie.art, Christian von Hanno, to share some of their perspectives and experiences.
The conversation is led by art historian and communications manager at Trafo Kunsthall , Ella Jahr Nygaard.
The event is a collaboration with Asker Art School and is supported by Asker kommune .
Sebastian Helling (b. 1975, London) is a graduate of the Oslo Academy of Fine Arts (MA), the Royal College of Art in London (MA) and the London College of Printing (BA). Helling's artistry has an enormous power in composition, color and understanding of painting. The paintings consist partly of traditional "strokes" and partly of sprayed paint, and in the space between these ways of treating the canvas's surface a quivering field of painterly meaning arises. Helling is recognized as an important voice on the international art scene and has been purchased by influential national and international collectors.
Christian von Hanno (b. 1984) was born in Halmstad, Sweden, and raised in Ekely, next to Munch's studio. With the goal of becoming an art photographer like his father Lennart Olson, he made his debut at the 2004 Autumn Exhibition at the age of 20, and studied at Einar Granum School of Fine Arts. However, his interest in design led him to complete a master's degree in design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO). After working as a service designer for several years, in 2020 he chose to quit his job and focus fully on further developing Atelie as a company and combining his passions.
Ella Jahr Nygaard (b. 1993) has a master's degree in art history from the University of Oslo. She works as a writer and translator and has been employed at Trafo Kunsthall since 2022.
