Trafo Kunsthall is pleased to invite you to an artist talk on the occasion of Olav Ringdal's solo exhibition ROTVELT, which will be on display at the Kunsthallen until January 12, 2025. Ringdal and Thorkildsen have also previously worked together when Thorkildsen curated the exhibition "The Ghost Machine" with Stein Koksvik and Olav Ringdal at Drammen Kunstmuseum in 2002.

Olav Ringdal (b. 1961) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Trondheim and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam, 1982-1989. Ringdal works with drawing, painting, sculpture and installation. His visual language is often expressive and contradictory, composed of contrasting elements. Ringdal had his first solo exhibition in Trondheim in 1990, and has since had a number of solo exhibitions, including at Henie Onstad, Galleri F15, Buer in Oslo and most recently at Trafo Kunsthall with the exhibition ROTVELT. In 2026 he will open a major solo exhibition at Bomuldsfabriken in Arendal. He has been purchased by, among others, Trondheim Art Museum, Henie Onstad Art Center, Kube in Ålesund, the Norwegian Arts Council and the National Museum.

Åsmund Thorkildsen (b.1954) is an art historian, curator and critic. Thorkildsen has held several leading positions in the art field, including as intendant at Kunstnernes Hus (1988-1999), director of the Astrup Fearnley Museum (1999-2001), and managing director of Drammens Museum (2001-2022). He has also been employed as professor II in art theory at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts from 1998-2021. In 2024, Thorkildsen curated the opening exhibition "Nordic Passions" at Kunstsilo in Kristiansand.
