REKREASJON is produced and curated by Trafo Kunsthall The exhibition marks the first part of a three-year initiative aimed at exploring the possibilities for expanded exhibition activities at Dikemark.

The term ' rekreasjon ' can be seen in light of Dikemark's psychiatric hospital history where patients' autonomy, mastery and presence were core points of treatment. The exhibition initiative is an attempt to illuminate the nuances of the site's diverse history and point out new directions for the future. With REKREASJON we want to give new life to the institutional buildings and gardens at Dikemark with art, architecture and the site as a focal point .

COOPERATION

Trafo Kunsthall has been commissioned by Asker kommune to investigate the possibilities for cultural industries at Dikemark. Over time, the Kunsthallen has linked up with various actors and partners, including higher education institutions.

This is the starting point for the collaboration with NMBU as a part of REKREASJON . Master's students Balder Ullmann and Eira Opedal were tasked with looking at the potential of urban agriculture for the future development of Dikemark, with rekreasjon as a starting point. In this context, they saw it as relevant to look at the areas that are already defined as green structures. Dikemark currently has good conditions for operating rekreasjon , and Ullmann and Opedal wanted to look at how they could further develop the qualities of the place by creating green meeting places as a focal point for the local community. The overall idea is to reactualize the principle on which Dikemark is founded; namely that scenic surroundings are positive for mental and physical health.

They themselves say about the project: "There is a lot we can learn about how agriculture worked in the past and at the same time increase the degree of self-sufficiency and locally sourced food through various cultivation activities. Values such as community and sustainability are central to how we hope Dikemark will develop. Dikemark can hopefully be an inspiration for what the green neighborhood of the future can look like."
